Wirklich?? Genau!!

Wow! This week really flew by me! Where did all my time go?? I guess now that classes have picked up and lessons have begun, everything has been going faster. I must savor every moment of it!
Well Saturday night was insane. Got to experience some of the German night life… and all I can say is, no wonder nothing is open on Sundays! People stay up til about 5am over the weekends, but I definitely didn’t this weekend lol. We had church the morning after and me and Allison literally ran to our bus stop in order to be on time! Even the buses here are are never late. If we were like 20 seconds later, we would have missed it! Anyways, after traveling through the crazy snow that morning, we got to the chapel to find out it was canceled due to the weather! Then we had to endure the coldness for the commute back. I forgot my socks so my feet were numb. But then we went to Extrablatt for an all-you-can-eat buffet!! It was so delicious. Everything is closed on Sundays except restaurants, so I’m pretty sure the whole Pension took a nap that afternoon! Then we woke up for Bratwurst for dinner!
The rest of the week has been great. Classes are great and all the professors are wonderful. This program is so great. Me and Jonathan even got to babysit Vivian and Adam (the director and my German teacher’s children)! They can be a hand full at times, and I ended up with a bitten thumb and a bruised chin! Hahah.
Another exciting thing that happened this week is the CFO (John Reynolds) and the Provost (Michael Whyte) came to visit us on Tuesday! They took a tour of the Pension and looked at property during the day. But the best part was when they invited us to dinner at Perkeo’s that night! Wow, we ate so much that night. I honestly felt like royalty. And they were also really entertaining men! They were cracking jokes every second haha. So yeah, we ate for 3 hours lol. I was soooo fullllll. I eat A LOT for this trip. : )
So I had a big day today, with a 3 hour Conducting class, then German class, then my very first violin lesson! It went so well! My teacher is the Concertmaster of the Heidelberg Philharmonic and I feel so honored to be his student! He picked me up from the Pension and drove me to his house! And he took the same route that the bus would take so I would be familiar with it next time I go by myself. His place was so nice and I even got to play with his dog, Charlie! We had a great first lesson, I learned lots already. Then I got to meet his son, Rafael, then just hung out at his place as they were getting ready to take me back to the Pension. : ) I felt like lessons are way more personal and comfortable here. There isn’t any pressure and yet there is a feel of professionalism! I couldn’t ask for anything better.
The rest of my day was great as well. I got lunch at die Mensa and did my German homework. Then I walked up and down the Hauptstraße by myself, it was so relaxing. The sun was shining and everything was so beautiful! Sometimes a person would walk up to me, “Entschuldigen!” and ask me for directions or something haha. I’m just glad I can look like someone who can speak German to them :D Anyways, after my alone time, me and Allison did some homework at Starbucks. Then I took a nap! Then had dinner at die Mensa and then we had a huge craving for ice cream, and so did the guys! So we walked all the way to the bus station and got McFlurries at McDonald’s! I was so happy there was something open at midnight! I thought we wouldn’t find a place. I love the McDonald’s here! It’s so clean and classy. It’s a great place to hang out.
Oh, and I decided to make a list and update it everyday of things that I love about Germany.
Things I love about Germany #1: There are always people out, no matter what time of day it is.
I’m looking forward to this weekend! Only one class tomorrow, so I’m going to practice a lot a lot! And Saturday is Coffee and Cake at the Schwarz’ and then we’re going to a performance of Mozart’s final opera, The Magic Flute! So stoked.
